Today, we discuss what are the essential requirements for one to start business in Rwanda.

Requirements to create a business in Rwanda vary on what type of business or company person is interested in.
Note. In Rwanda, one can establish business as an enterprise or a company depending on one’s interests and nature of business is willing to establish. Types of companies reorganized in Rwanda include: A Company limited by shares; A Company limited by guarantee; A Company limited by both shares and by guarantee (these ones can be public or private); Unlimited companies.

In Rwanda a company cannot be registered unless it has one resident director in Rwanda.
Requirements for Individual Enterprise:
1. Copy of ID/Passport

Requirements Domestic Company Registration
1. Copy of ID/Passport
2. Passport of the resident Director
3. Email Address

Requirements for Opening a branch/ Foreign Company:
1. Power of attorney to present the company in Rwanda.(Notarised).
2. A duly authenticated copy of the Articles of Association (Notarised).
3. Certificate of Registration/Incorporationissued by the registration authority in the country of incorporation( Notarised).
4. Notarised minutes of the shareholder meeting authorizing the opening of a branch/subsidary in Rwanda.
5. Passport copies of the shareholders
6. List of directors residing in Rwanda.
7. Passport of the resident Director/s

Requirements to open Public Company

1. Shareholders meeting resolution authorizing the opening of a public company
2. Complete two copies of Article 14 of the companies Act (Memo of Association)
3. Passport copies of the shareholders

Requirements to open Private Company:
1. Copy of ID/Passport
2. Passport of the resident Director
3. Email Address
